“Doesn't matter what the press says. Doesn't matter what the politicians or the mobs say. Doesn't matter if the whole country decides that something wrong is something right. This nation was founded on one principle above all else: The requirement that we stand up for what we believe, no matter the odds or the consequences. When the mob and the press and the whole world tell you to move, your job is to plant yourself like a tree beside the river of truth, and tell the whole world -- "No, YOU move.”
-- Captain America, (Written By J. Michael Straczynski, Civil War: The Amazing Spider-Man).
A pretty heavy quote from a superhero comic book. But this very topic is something I've been wondering about for the past few months.
With so much going on in our culture right now, so much change, so many differences than we might have ever known at one single point in our history, what is the action to take? What direction do we go as Christians? And, above all, what is the best way to respond so that we are representing the Living God?
I'm not writing here to say I have the one correct dignified response. In fact, I'm currently not looking to respond to that.
I'm asking you. And I want your response.
(In a civil and polite manner, of course I'm not wanting to divide, just wanting to listen.)
What are we to do? Are we to stay next to what we know to be the river of truth? Or do we adapt and move with the culture, so that we believe we can better tell the truth?
