Lauren's Story: The Dominican to Tanzania

"I found myself amongst a large group of children of whom I had never met.

I had no idea where I was, but I recognized that it was the Lord who had placed me there. All of a sudden, a pastor friend of mine from North Carolina came in to inform me that he had brought a small mission team with him. I ran outside to greet them…

And that’s when I woke up.

It was a strange dream. I hadn’t spoken to this pastor friend of mine in a while nor did I recognize the place I had been in. For the last three years, I had been serving in the Dominican Republic discipling young girls and boys to walk in purpose and purity in the midst of a promiscuous culture, teaching them to guard their hearts and minds in Christ Jesus… but this dream was something entirely new.

After having my first cup of coffee, I received a Facebook message from the same pastor friend who was in my dream, inviting me to Tanzania in two short months.

“The Twilight Zone” theme song began playing in my head.

Being a missionary, I wasn’t sure if I would have the funds to accept such an invitation.  So, I laid out a fleece and asked the Lord that if I were to go, He would provide financial assistance.  Without informing my pastor friend of this fleece, he told me that all of my expenses were paid for…

Seriously. What was God up to?!

While in Tanzania, I discovered many still practice tribal polygamy, female circumcision, and the pledging of young girls to marriage often before they’ve even been born.  My heart and soul were broken in a way I had not known before. How could this still be? What did God want to do about it, and what was His purpose in showing me this?

It didn’t take long for the Lord to show me the next steps, but it took saying goodbye to the place and people I had called home in the Dominican Republic.  This was one of the hardest things I’ve ever had to do.

Upon returning to the states, and in the course of one year, God gave me the word “Love”… which led me to a bible study called “Love Defined”… which sent me to a ministry retreat in Colorado… which introduced me to two missionaries from Namibia who are developing a ministry called Genesis Design. In a world that has been so deceived, their ministry teaches children and youth in Whose image they were made and their subsequent value as God’s design for manhood, womanhood, marriage, and sexuality is revealed… Come on, now!

Meeting those two missionaries was what I call a “divine appointment” as it opened a door of writing curriculum for a ministry that is instilling hope, significance, purpose, and truth in the hearts and minds of so many in Africa. And as deep calls out to deep, my spirit senses that Genesis Design is not only for the 7 nations in Africa in which it is currently being taught, but for the nations of the world."

Romans‬ ‭10:17-18‬ ‭(CEB‬‬) “So, faith comes from listening, but it’s listening by means of Christ’s message. But I ask you, didn’t they hear it? Definitely! Their voice has gone out into the entire earth, and their message has gone out to the corners of the inhabited world.”

‭‭If you are unsure in your path, you have a Guide.

If you are already seeking, living and doing in The Lord's name, you'll be shown the way.

Just be still, lean in and listen.

Your chapter will be opened and it will be revealed.
